First impressions of Sydney are always nice. It is a sparkling, bustling metropolitan city, green, clean and the promise of fun times lies just under its shimmering surface. The weather here is delightful, with none of that sweat-inducing humidity in tropical Singapore. Over here, the breeze is cool, the sun is warm and the locals, despite some residual xenophobia, are generally genial, especially to the exotic Asian girls that grace their shores. Sydney is actually just as cosmopolitan as Singapore, but perhaps more. They have everyone from all over the world. There is a large Asian population of not just Chinese, but Vietnamese, Thais, Koreans and Japanese. Throw in the Italians, Greeks, Hispanics and Lebanese, and there you have it, a mish-mash, a sauce, a salsa, as Tito Puente would say.

Chicago, a populous city of dense skyscrapers and energy, and known for its Bulls and Cubs. But did you know the city boasts of one of the most vibrant salsa scene in the US? I found out about that in my recent trip to the States, and the timing could not get better as it was just a week before the 2nd Annual Chicago Salsa Festival. You could sense the excitement in the air.

I sniff excitement in the air as I lay my eyes on a dance floor packed with dancers in tube dresses, spiffy shirts, hats, hot pants, garters, boas and feathers all before
10pm. With a “Life is a Cabaret” theme, Two Left Feet’s party at the Upper Club is promising a night of fun and thrill. The party, along with its dress-to-kill participants, does not disappoint, I am glad to say.

New club on the block: It's Azzucar!

This past weekend, a bunch of us went to check out a new Latin club in Clarke Quay. Azzucar! [yeap, just like in the song!], is located in Blk D, #02-03 and plays a mix of live Latin music, Latin pop, reggeton and salsa almost every night. Sunday is salsa night so for salseros who need their salsa fix to kick start the week, head on down.

It was a night where bell bottoms and vintage dresses rule and it became cool to don afro wigs to freestyle to signature disco moves. Two Left Feet’s Boogie Wonderland 70's Salsa Party at Upper Club brought the boogie back with a boast-worthy performance, prizes galore and a hell of a turn out.<!--[endif]-->
