As much as we have been harping about the mega stars coming from abroad to the Singapore International Salsa Festival 2008, let us not forget our local talents. Some of Singapore’s most gifted salsa instructors and dance teams will come under one roof to showcase their skills and performances. Here are some of our local instructors and performers look out for.
You already know who the big salsa stars coming to the Singapore International Salsa Festival 2008 are and why you should not be missing it. As the big day draws near and before they get completely buried beneath the work, we catch up with Jackson Tan and June Gan of JJSalsaRengue and find out how they are really coping with the hustle bustle.
Come October 25, salseros in Singapore will get to dance to the music of The Bronx Horns, a seven-piece band from the northernmost of New York City that delivers a tight mix of salsa, mambo, cha-cha-cha and Latin jazz which both listeners and dancers can appreciate.
We are rubbing our hands in anticipation of the salsa celebrities that will strut their stuff at the Singapore International Salsa Festival 2008. In fact we can wait no longer so we searched Youtube for the instructors and performers who are coming, and found a treasure trove which got us talking and all excited. So here are teasers on what to expect. Watch, be awed, then imagine catching these brilliant performers…live!
They are quite the all-rounder. They know the dance and its music, and they even spin those you are happily doing the mambo to. They are Jason Lim and Jean Kleinman aka DJ Mariachi, salsa enthusiasts and also two of Singapore’s most prominent salsa DJs. We ask them how they got started, what music makes them tick and what to expect when they take over the DJ console at the Singapore International Salsa Festival 2008.
